Hello gorgeous! So you find yourself here because, like me, you’re down to try anything to get rid of those pesky stretch marks.
My stripes first appeared when I was in high school, and if you’re like most girls (or guys!), that’s the case for you too.
Maybe yours are new because you’re with child for the first time – congrats! Perhaps yours are old and you never thought you could do anything about them. Or, if you’re lucky, you don’t have any! Good for you girl, you’ve won the genetic lottery (See DIY Natural Beauty Series).
I have scoured the interwebs, making note of all the remedies that people have said work or don’t work. From this research, I’ve created my own formula! I’ve tested it out on my own stretch marks, and it is FABULOUS!
Get ready to say bye bye to those tiger stripes and hello to confidence!
For all my pregnant and breastfeeding mamas out there: It is important to consult your doctor before starting ANY beauty care routine, natural (like this one!) or not.

What Causes Stretch Marks?
Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched at a rate that it cannot keep up with growth wise. This can happen via pregnancy, weight gain, or growth spurts.
This rapid growth weakens the elastin of the skin, allowing it to tear much more easily. No bueno.
The best remedy is prevention. If you know you’re going to grow – for whatever reason – you want to supply your skin with nourishment. This DIY remedy helps to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, but it will also help to prevent them.
If you’re interested in reading more about elastin, read more here in my post 6 Supplements To Keep Your Beautiful and Strong.
What’s on the Market
By now you’ve probably thought: hey! I thought they sold products to reduce/prevent stretch marks already. And, yes, you’re correct.
HOWEVER! Even the most trusted of brands (I’m looking at you, Palmer’s!) have chemicals that you should not be putting on your skin. Especially if you’re expecting.
Ingredients: Water, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Glyceryle Stearate, Petrolatum, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Mineral Oil (Paraffinium Liquidum), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance (Parfum), Hyroxyethylcellulose, PEG 8 Stearate, Benhentrimonium Methpsulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearalkonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Methylisothiazolinone, Benzyl Alcohol, Yellow 5 (CI19140), Orange 4 (CI15510).
Just look at all the unpronounceable chemicals in that list of ingredients for the product above. Yuck!!!
It is a waaaaay better option to use natural, wholesome ingredients to do the same job. We are already exposed to so many harsh chemicals in our environment and food products. Why add to that with what we put on our skin?
- Lemon: citric acid heals scars – Juice of 1 lemon.
- Cocoa Butter: high quality emollient; helps moisturize the skin – 4 Tbsp.
- Olive oil: rich in vitamin e, which encourages skin elasticity – 1 Tbsp.
- Coconut oil: prevents skin damage by nourishing the skin with fatty acids that do not easily oxidize – 4 Tbsp.
You can find all of these ingredients in your kitchen, or here:
The mixture will be an ivory color and very creamy.
- Measure out your ingredients and put into a glass jar, making sure to seal it tightly.
- Boil a low level of water and put glass jar into boiling water, keeping lid unsubmerged.
- Allow ingredients to melt.
- Remove jar and open lid.
- Mix ingredients together.
- Allow to cool before use.
- Apply 1-3 times daily!
This photo of my upper thigh was taken after only 2 applications of this DIY remedy! Astounding results, I must say.
And remember: whether you have stretch marks or not does not determine your worth!
